Duke Restoration

An 1800’s Victorian gets a new pair of Shoes

This project centered around a thoughtful renovation of a heritage home in Hamilton, where character-rich details met modern function. Every element was approached with care, working in harmony with the home’s original architecture while subtly updating it for contemporary living.

The entryway was transformed into a warm, functional space with custom millwork, vertical paneling, and built-in seating. A herringbone brick floor adds texture and depth, while high-impact trim and original door features were preserved and refreshed, embracing the charm and imperfection of the home’s century-old bones.

In the kitchen, custom oak cabinetry was paired with hand-glazed tile, soft plaster finishes, and mixed metal hardware for a collected, timeless feel. Arched niches and open shelving introduced both elegance and practicality. Every cabinet, surface, and tile was meticulously installed to accommodate the uneven floors, shifting walls, and subtle quirks that come with restoring a historic structure.

This renovation balances reverence for the past with everyday livability—proof that thoughtful design can overcome even the most stubborn old floors.
